2022 Kia Stinger Gets More Power, Adds New 2.5T Engine

The 3.3T V-6 gains a few horses thanks to a new exhaust system, and a 300-hp turbo-four joins the lineup.

  • Kia's updated Stinger gains a new engine option and a bit more power for the optional V-6.
  • A 300-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four is now available, and the 3.3T V-6 model adds a new variable exhaust which adds 3 horsepower.
  • The 2022 Kia Stinger will be available in the U.S. late this year.

The 2022 Kia Stinger's styling updates will be accompanied by a rejiggered engine lineup as well. Kia has announced that a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four will be newly available, sitting between the existing turbo 2.0-liter inline-four and twin-turbo, 3.3-liter V-6 engine options. The 2.5T makes 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque and uses an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The base 2.0T four-cylinder, which currently makes 255 horsepower and 260 lb-ft, will carry over unchanged, while the optional 3.3T V-6 found in GT models receives a new variable exhaust system that comes standard on all V-6 models and adds 3 horsepower, for totals of 368 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. Kia also claims that the new exhaust makes for a better sound in Sport mode. We assume all engines will be available with either rear- or optional all-wheel drive, though Kia hasn't confirmed that yet.

We've already seen the 2022 Stinger's other updates, which include new headlights and taillights, different bits of interior trim, and a larger 10.3-inch infotainment screen. The Stinger also adds a few driver-assistance features such as a blind-spot camera system and lane-centering assist.

Expect pricing to rise slightly compared with the current Stinger, which starts at $34,125 for the base four-cylinder GT-Line model and $40,625 for the V-6–powered GT. Models equipped with the new 2.5T engine are likely to start in the high-$30,000 range.
